Mammals Mammals are warmblooded vertebrates that have hair or fur and nurse their young. American Mink Mink are long sleek mammals in the weasel family. Eastern Chipmunk Chipmunks are small striped rodents in the squirrel family. Eastern Cottontail This rabbit was introduced to NH in the early 1900s and has quickly become widespread. Eastern Coyote The largest member of the dog family in NH, coyotes are frequent visitors to our yard. Fisher Fishers are a large member of the weasel family, found throughout the northern US and Canada. Fox (Gray) Members of the dog family, gray foxes are shy and less commonly seen than red foxes. Fox (Red) Members of the dog family, red foxes have a rusty orange coat and a white-tipped tail. They’re found throughout NH. Groundhog Groundhogs are large rodents in the ground squirrel family. Opossum Opossums are nocturnal and are the only kind of marsupial found in the US. Raccoon Raccoons are clever and common in our yard and throughout New Hampshire. Squirrel (Eastern Gray) Gray squirrels are a rodent that flourish throughout the area. They can be both beneficial, by helping spread seeds, and detrimental, by damaging feeders or houses. Squirrel (Red) Red squirrels are about half the size of gray squirrels and are seldom seen in the winter. White-Tailed Deer Our most common member of the deer family, white-tailed deer are incredibly adaptable and can live just about anywhere.
