Red-Winged Blackbird

On the other side of the small patch of woods behind our house, there are some marshy areas. This is where (I’m pretty sure) these birds come from when they land in our yard. Males and females look like two different birds. Males are jet black with red and yellow/orange patches on their shoulders. Females are brown with a bit of rusty-orange around their face. Both give the same calls–shrill whistles and one that sounds like “o-ka-lee!”
