The only marsupial in New Hampshire, the true name of this animal is Virginia opossum. Though I rarely see them, they are frequent nighttime visitors to our yard. I get a lot of opossum videos on my game cam. They’re not going to win any beauty contests, but I find their waddle and primitiveness endearing. Interestingly, they’ve only been around in NH for about the last 100 years. They’ve moved north as our climate has warmed. They eat just about anything (including ticks), don’t dig up yards, and rarely carry rabies, so this is a great animal to have around.
