Mourning doves are closely related to pigeons (rock doves), and are quite lovely. Their coo is a lilting mournful call. They visit our tray feeder and often clean up seeds that fall to the ground. When they take off, their wings make a sharp whistling sound that some might mistake for a vocalization.
