Whenever I’m out gardening and a toad appears, I drop everything to pick it up and observe for a while. They’re one of my favorite animals. When my son was young, he had one in a tank for a few weeks in the summer, and he would eat out of our hand. Even after we released him, if we found him outside, we could feed him bugs. I feel like I see fewer toads in the yard than I once did.
