Technically a type of yellowjacket, bald-faced hornets have distinctive white markings on their faces and abdomens. Like yellowjackets, they can be quite aggressive, especially if their nest is disturbed. Speaking of disturbing, they can apparently spray venom into they eyes of nest intruders. These wasps are quite common in New Hampshire and are beneficial, provided their nest isn’t too close to people.
