These striking butterflies, also called red-spotted admirals, are actually the same species as the white admiral. In this color variation, they apparently mimic the pipevine swallowtail, which doesn’t taste good. These butterflies are often found along the edges of the woods. They prefer sap, rotting fruit, and animal dung to flower nectar.
