These are one of the most recognizable butterflies in New Hampshire. Males are yellow with black stripes. Females also have blue dots at the back edges of their wings. There are also some females that are much darker, though I haven’t yet seen one in our yard. These butterflies frequent our yard and seem to especially enjoy lilies and coneflowers.
