Hairy Woodpecker

This woodpecker looks a lot like the downy woodpecker, wirth males having a bright red dot on the backs of their heads. Interestingly, even though it’s bigger than the downy, it’s also more timid. So, it might be as common in our yard as the downy, but I just see them less. Like downy woodpeckers, hairy woodpecker visit our suet and cylinder feeders.
